As the clock stood at four seconds, Justin Kahut stared into the Arizona Stadium sea of red, with just one thought on his mind: redemption.

Minutes earlier, Kahut shanked an extra point left, which left the Oregon State Beavers trailing the Arizona Wildcats 17-16, possibly erasing the Beavers’ hopes of making the Rose Bowl for the first time in 43 years. This time Kahut would not miss, nailing the chip shot as time expired to give his team the 19-17 victory.

While Buckeye fans yelled at their television sets and threw furniture across the room, the Beavers moved within one victory of claiming the Pac-10 crown, setting up a rematch with #8 Penn State in Pasadena on New Year’s Day. The Beavers have 1 loss in the conference, tying them with USC, but their head-to-head victory over the Trojans gives them the automatic BCS bid. USC would likely get the last at-large spot, pending they beat Notre Dame and UCLA, knocking the Buckeyes out of the BCS picture and into the Capital One Bowl with Georgia the likely opponent.

While 10-2 was a great season despite all that happened, four BCS trips in four seasons would really have been a nice finish for the seniors on this football team. The Capital One Bowl is no slouch, and the Buckeyes will get their shot at an SEC team if that is where they end up, but there is just something empty in the thought of heading to Orlando on January 1.

The season is not over and there are many possibilities for the Buckeyes to end up in a BCS bowl, but they are certainly going to need some help. OSU fans will be rooting for Oregon to take down the Beavers next week, as that could be the last shot to get into what would probably be the Fiesta Bowl or Sugar Bowl. Go out and buy your green and yellow, because next week Columbus is becoming a Ducks town.
