As Lloyd Carr “resigned” from Head Coach at University of Michigan, so did the Nike sponsorship. Last summer, Michigan signed an eight-year $7.5 million deal a year with Adidas. Michigan previously had a $1 million a year deal with Nike before school sponsorships seemed to really exist. Ohio State on the other hand, just signed a 7 year $26 million deal from Nike plus $8.6 million to keep Nike as the sole provider of athletic gear.
Adidas and Michigan will incorporate the new jerseys for the football season this fall; a major change from classic Nike tops from before. Although West Virginia is a Nike school, the new U of M jerseys resemble the Mountaineer ones heavily. Rich Rodriguez is slowly changing Michigan into West Virginia on the field. Michigan faithful better pray nothing else in Ann Arbor soon resembles Morgantown.
