Corey Linsley, a 6′4 285 lb offensive lineman from Youngstown Boardman, has just committed to play for Ohio State. Linsley had numerous offers from schools such as Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford, and Miami Fla. but chose the Buckeyes today. The offensive guard is now the 13th commitment for Jim Tressel’s recruiting class of ‘09. OSU has compiled an impressive list of recruits so far this year and look to add at least 8 more recruits to this class and possibly more before this class is finished next February.

Update: Analysis (by Alex, 5:35 p.m.)

What does it mean now that Corey Linsley is a Buckeye?

First off this is a huge get for Jim Tressel and his staff. They continue to lock up commitments from all the top players in the state, something Illinois Coach Ron Zook and “Dick Rod” at the school up north were certainly trying to do this year (especially after Zook stole Glenville WR Cordale Scott from OSU this past recruiting season). Second of all Linsley is a highly touted lineman who becomes the second of four of five lineman that will be in this class. This could put some pressure on Chris Watt of Illinois and Marcus Hall from Glenville to commit soon, although I see the Buckeyes making room for both of those lineman no matter what. With Alex Boone, Steve Rehring, and Ben Person all leaving this year, followed by Jim Cordle and Andrew Moses leaving the following year, there is plenty of room on the OSU offensive line depth chart opening up for these guys who will sign in the 2009 class. Linsley’s verbal pledge will give the Bucks another guard option to plug into the line up after Rehring and Person leave, as he will join Mike Brewster, Connor Smith, Justin Boren, Evan Blankenship (could play T), and fellow 2009 commit Jack Mewhort in competition for the interior line openings. Look for more on the impact on Linsley’s commitment and how the class of 2009 will round out in the upcoming Filling Out the Rosters Segment Version 2.0.
