Hampton, Virginia native, Tahj Boyd, is rated as one of the top quarterbacks in the country across all recruiting services. He proved his worth as a top ranked recruit through his performance in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, where he went 7-9 for 188 yards and 3 TDs, earning the co-MVP award in the game. Boyd originally committed to West Virginia before switching to Tennessee, where he was ultimately dropped by Lane Kiffin and the new staff in Knoxville. Upon re-opening his recruitment it seemed Tahj was either headed to Ohio State or Oregon with Boston College looming as well.

As his stock has rised of late, it seems Tahj has been recruited by more schools than the three previously mentioned. Clemson is the major school vying for the young man’s services and the Tigers are making a serious play. After good friend, WR Bryce McNeal, committed to Clemson at the Army Bowl, I became nervous that Clemson might try to jump in and swoop Tahj away. My intuition was right as Tahj’s visit to BC has been canceled and he will now visit Clemson this weekend. He is expected to make a decision soon after this weekend.

Word on the street is that the Clemson commits have been trying to talk Tahj into coming to CU all week long at Army Bowl practice and Tahj is starting to buy into the thought of playing at Clemson, which is closer to his Virginia home than OSU or Oregon. Although he would probably red-shirt no matter where he goes, Boyd probably has a better chance of seeing the field sooner at Clemson than Oregon or Ohio State as well. These factors are very scary to OSU fans, like myself, who really want this kid.

In my (of course biased) opinion I feel that Tahj should choose to come to OSU. In all objectivity, I think OSU give him the best chance to become an NFL quarterback and allows for him to learn under Terrelle Pryor. I couldn’t think of a better mentor than TP and the rest of the OSU coaching staff.Boyd would also get to play in the national spotlight more often at Ohio State, meaning more exposure to scouts and NFL personnel. Lastly, the talent at OSU around him will be much better than at Clemson. Taking nothing away from the Tigers, OSU is just a better program and will continue to build on what they have with top notch recruits year after year.

Tahj, if your reading, please come to OSU. I’m sure Clemson and Oregon have a ton to offer, but paired with DeVier Posey, Lamaar Thomas, Jake Stoneburner, Jaamal Berry, and the rest of the current young roster players and incoming recruits, you can really do special things in Columbus.
