The hype has begun.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes vs. the University of Southern California Trojans on the gridiron, 8:00 pm ABC, September 13th, from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated has pegged it as the #1 most season defining game of 2008 while some of our Buckeye brethren over at Eleven Warriors are already having nightmares of what may happen that September night.

Most Ohio State fans are trying to be cautiously optimistic but are mentally preparing for the worst as the Buckeyes are coming off of two devastating BCS National Championship Game losses. Conversely, this game is of utter importance for a lot of reasons as it could have implications on not only this season’s outcome but it could also could do further damage to OSU’s poor reputation as the power in a weak Big 10 that is much inferior to powerful SEC.

The build up for this game has just begun but I couldn’t help not sharing one person’s take on the game, that is one Hugh Hewitt, a native of Warren, Ohio.

His take from the June 25 broadcast of Salem Radio Network’s The Hugh Hewitt Show:

By the way, I — I’m still trying to find two tickets to the Ohio State-USC game. And none of the USC people will give up their tickets to me. I’d pay fair price. They — they know Ohio State’s gonna slaughter the Trojans. They know that they’re gonna slaughter the Trojans, and therefore they do not want me there at the bloodbath, since it’s probably the last football game we’ll ever get to see before the United States gets blown up by the Islamists under Obama. I — I would like to see Ohio State slaughter USC. This is what I’m living for right now. I’m keeping — all the bad news, I just focus on the Ohio State upcoming slaughter of USC. So if you are a USC fan willing to sell me two or perhaps even three USC tickets to the Ohio State game, hugh@hughhewitt.com, or if you’re a Buckeye fan with those tickets back in Ohio, I’ll trade you some Browns tickets. New York Giants, Monday night game? Think about it.

First off, I wouldn’t sell you the tickets if I had them. (Alex, Dave, and Dylan do)

Second, if this is the last game before the Islamists blow us up under Obama, then I’m defiantly not going to sell you my ticket. (I want to see this match up before the world ends)

Third, even a Monday night Browns-Giants game wouldn’t convince me to trade away this epic battle. (And I’m a big Browns fan)

I like your confidence though Hugh, and I wish I was as confident as you. Then maybe I could sleep at night without out the horrors of a defeat by USC running through my mind.

Only if we all shared his confidence.
