In a classless and not so surprising move, Louisville Male (KY) Athlete, Justin Green, has decided to de-commit from Ohio State and will sign with Illinois tomorrow.
Green was rumored to be de-committing today and was said to be signing with Kentucky, but that rumor was shot down by people around Green, including his brother, former OSU DT, Marcus Green. Justin has been wavering on his commitment this entire season and even took an official visit to Clemson earlier in January, coming away by saying that he was 100% Buckeye. Apparently, his word is not as good as stone, and Green has decided to spurn OSU just one day before National Signing Day.
Green, an Army All-American Bowl participant, apparently was offered to play running back for Ron Zook in Champaign, and liked that idea better than playing corner back in Columbus. The move does not make much sense as OSU is thin at corner and Green would have a chance to compete for playing time right away. Illinois will travel to Columbus next year, and I’m certainly hoping Sabino, Homan, Spitler, Rolle, and company get their hands on this kid and show him what real football is all about.
This leaves OSU with 25 commitments for the Class of 2009. This class is still very good without Green, as fellow corners, Corey Brown, Dominic Clarke, and CJ Barnett should all be able to compete for playing time next season. OSU now has room for two more players, with Marlon Brown being the main target. With an open spot in the secondary, a surprise commitment could jump into the mix, with Glenville’s Mike Edwards being a name thrown around the message boards. Edwards has committed to Tennesse, but is good friends with Marcus Hall and it has been no secret he coveted an OSU offer (never got one). I would like to see JT offer Edwards and make him a part of this class, but academic issues have been raised with him in the past.
We won’t know until tomorrow what will happen, but if we can hold onto the other 25 verbal commitments that have given their pledge to become Buckeyes, one thing that is for certain is that this class will be very good. OSU stands as the #4 class according to ESPN/Scouts Inc. and I can’t imagine Green’s departure dropping them out of the top 5. National Signing Day is tomorrow and only then will all our questions be answered.
