Carson Palmer, former Heisman winner and USC alum, recently appeared on a LA radio talk show and was asked about Ohio State - USC game later this year. He more specifically was asked about OSU fans and whether he watches what he says being in the state of Ohio. He then popped his mouth off about OSU and the fans saying he can’t stand the Buckeyes and can’t wait until USC comes to Columbus next year and gives OSU an “old fashioned Pac 10 butt whooping.”
Audio here:
Carson should have probably stuck one of those John Morrell hot dogs that he advertises in his mouth or stated his opinion a little less arrogantly. Last time I checked Cincinnati is in Ohio (even though some would rather give it to Kentucky) and most of his fans are Ohioans who are loyal Buckeyes. I respect his opinions but he should have had little more class and respect for OSU considering he is a prominent figure in the state of Ohio.
I lost some respect for what I thought was always a classy guy and being a Browns fan, it’s going to be really easy to root against this guy and I’m secretly hoping he gets Kimo K. von Oelhoffened again.

As a Browns fan I have a natural dislike of the Bengals, but this just adds more fuel to the fire.
If Palmer said he thought OSU would lose, I wouldn’t be too upset. He just disrespected an entire University…
Go Browns!
Question: Who Dey?
Answer: The Cincinnati Police
Carson has every right as an USC alum to talk trash about his school’s opponents. It is true that Buckeye fans are almost as obnoxious as Browns fans, so Carson probably gets an earful all the time.
I live in Cincy but am from DC (went to OSU), and I have tremendous respect for Carson. He didn’t trash anything OSU, just said he’s sick of hearing about the Buckeyes and is rooting for his team.
This article is despicable and that you hope he gets Von Olhoffened makes me sick. I have checked DTI just about 3-4 time a week and have enjoyed it each and every time until now.
I hope Dave who seems to run this site along with Alex moderate you or never let you write any opinion article again. Stick to the facts Corey. I’m guessing you’re a clowns fan and that made you upset.
Jim P.
Go ‘Skins…and Bucks
[…] DTI) Ballhype + YardBarker […]
Jim
That’s why we have opinions and although Carson may have not been wrong I can see why Corey and other fans feel
Angry….I never wish for anyone to get hurt though as karma comes back around….hopefully the bucks will speak for themselves
Never, ever wish someone to get hurt. That is just mean.
But I think that audio clip should be sent to the Buckeye training room before the Buckeyes pump iron. They can think of Carson and his Trojanes and how they’re going to whip their azzes.
I never want anybody to get hurt, except the Muslim throat cutters/decapitators. Cheers!
Go Buckeyes!
Jim Buckeye,
Maybe the Von Olhoffened comment was a little too much but come on, it was a little humor and it was joke. Relax. I guess it touched your nerves. The Browns fan in me came out in that one.
I know him being a USC alum may give him the right to talk trash but not when Ohioans are the ones that subsidize his income. My OPINION is that he should be a little more respectful but indeed your entitled to your own thoughts.
Real smart comment Sclepp. Do you realize Columbus is about twice the size of Cincy and a crap load of your fans are not from “Cintucky”. I have been a life long die hard Bengal fan but your comments may have broke this camels back. I think I am done rooting for losers and a loser city. GO BUCKS!!
Jim Buckeye,
Rather than wish injury, would it be more ‘politically correct’ to wish the Bengals’ slide (back) to mediocrity continues?
Then I wish that.
Carson has never been known to hold back about anything. He always expresses how much he hates UCLA and how he hates Pittsburgh more than he could ever hate ucla, etc.
If you were an OSU alum playing for the Chargers (nearest team) and all you heard everyday was how great USC is and never heard anything positive about OSU, I am sure your comments would be similar.
If you were a big supporter like Carson, you’d have something to say if someone asked you about OSU coming to town and what you thought about it.
Carson never said anything on the lines of “OSU is an awful, overrated program, etc.” All he had to say was that HIS trojans would beat OSU, just as any proud fan would.
I think Palmer’s comments are great. I love actually getting to hear what players think instead of that PC bullcrap.
Plus, being from Georgia and the SEC, everyone down here agrees with Palmer. Everyone in the SEC hates hearing about OSU hyped up all year long by the national media only for them to lose in the big time bowl games (at least the last two years).
They haven’t beaten anyone significant in a bowl game since their 2OT win over Miami to win the national championship. (Sorry Notre Dame doesn’t count.)
Dave,
With all due respect, even Braylon Edwards has broken out in the “OH-IO” cheer.
“I was definitely doing it,” Edwards admitted. “This is Ohio. This is my residence. This is where I play football. This is where I earn my paycheck. This is the city I’ve adopted and the one that has adopted me. I don’t mind doing O-H-I-O. I don’t believe it just pertains to Ohio State.
“Cleveland,” he said, “is in Ohio.”
Carson is actually a big fan of the Cincinnati Bearcats. If I recall, he told the Cincinnati Enquirer this last year:
“I’ve really admired Coach Kelly’s work. I was actually down there (at UC practice) a few days ago to do a clinic.” said Palmer. “Living in Cincinnati, I’ve become a big Bearcat football fan because it’s hard to like Ohio State coming from another big time program (USC). Liking OSU and USC would be like being a fan of the Bengals and the Steelers.”
excerpt from the Enquirer (10/21/2007)
Jim Buckeye, it is very apparent that you have a man-crush on Carson Palmer. It is clouding your perception. Until you can see the light you should probably remove the “Buckeye” from your name.
HE IS SUCH A LOSER TO SHOOT HIS MOUTH OFF IN BUCKEYE COUNTRY COME ON BUCKEYES HAS BEEN TO MORE TITLE GAMES THEN CARSON HAS TOOK HIS TEAM TO THE NFL PLAYOFFS HES A HACK WHO THINKS HES A GOOD PLAYER SOME ONE SHOULD SHUT HIM UP OH WAIT DIDNT STEELERS SHUT HIM UP ONCE BEFOR, HA , LOL HES A LOSER
I enjoyed your article corey. Save me a ticket for LA. And for all you Bengals fans… Carson Palmer is the most overrated quarterback in the nfl. He hasn’t done shit. He has two of the best receivers in the game and he still can’t win playoff games, let alone even make it there. Sure, the bengirls defense is suspect and should take plenty of the blame, but how are you gonna defend that schmuck and that loser team over your beloved buckeyes?! Come on people, the Bengals??? If Braylon ran his mouth off about the bucks (and yes I am a browns fan) I would probably hate him more than I already do. He’s a good player but I’ll always hate him because he’s from Michigan. Get your priorities straight Jim Buckeye, and try not to get your panties in a bunch..
Mike k,
As a big browns fan, I’ve always disliked Carson and the bengals. But you can’t lie. Carson is not overrated in the least bit. Multi time probolwer, great efficiency, classy guy minus his Osu remarks. The browns wish they could have a qb such as Carson. They just wish.
JOJOBEE, in addition to having the worst grammar I have seen on this website, your comparison of NFL playoff appearances to OSU title game appearances is part idiotic, part hilarous. We might as well compare North Carolina basketball to the Charlotte Bobcats. You can’t compare a long struggling franchise with a salary cap to one of the best college programs of all time.
And to anyone else, you’ve got to go back to Dave’s response about an OSU alum playing for the Chargers for example. Everyone here who loves the Bucks and can’t stand the other top programs has the same feelings as Carson does. What would Joey Galloway (TB) say about Miami, Florida, or Florida State? What would A.J. Hawk (GB) say about Wisconsin? What would Michael Jenkins (ATL) say about UGA? They all play in the same state as some of the other top programs, but do you think they will be doing the Gator Chomp or anything like that? You should be proud that Palmer dislikes OSU because it shows the type of program Ohio State has. Be like the Yankees and Patriots, like to be hated because you are so good (Spygate, payrolls aside).
[…] and gives OSU an ???old fashioned Pac 10 butt whooping.??? Audio here: carson should have probably http://dottingthei.com/index.php/carson-palmer-just-shut-up/Read “RE: Carson Palmer hates Ohio State fans” at NFL General Forum…Quote: Originally Posted by […]

Carson is awesome, he can say what he wants
Go Bucks and Bengals
Can you blame Carson?? I support the Buckeyes, but even I hate Buckeye fans… The guy supports his ala matter and gets sick of hearing from you idiots about how (1) OSU is so disrespected every year and (2) How OSU is the greatest thing to ever appear on planet earth.. I am sure you expect Ted Ginn to just LOVE those Miami Hurricanes now?? Oh that’s different, huh? Stop being annoying morons and take this as a good ribbing from someone who still loves where he played, and can’t stand the idiocy of others… This should be a non-issue…
Mike K sounds like a very reasonable guy too… the Brownies have never had a QB who could carry Carson’s jock… How do you even like the Browns Mike K? Not a single Buckeye on the roster… I am sure those guys from Michigan, Miami, Wisconson, Iowa, etc all just love the Buckeyes now… I bet 95% of “your team” hates the Buckeye Fans too, and would say the exact same thing as CArson if they “had a set”!!
Carson, Carson, Carson… so much to learn, so much to learn….
Abraham Lincoln once said “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.”
Nothing wrong with loyalty to your alma mater; nothing wrong with being an invested fan; a lot wrong with really poor sportsmanship and apparently not being savvy enough to know you play in… Ohio.
And, anyone who listens to sports radio in greater Columbus is deluded to think that the Bucks and their coaching staff aren’t questioned and criticized on a daily basis during football season.
He’s not going to lose sleep over what any of us think of him. And, he’s entitled to his opinion. And, the fans are entitled decide who they want to support, whether or not they spend their disposable income on the Bengals, and whether or not they watch the Bengals.
OSU v. USC will be an exciting match-up. Good for college football overall. With OSU and USC, we have two class-act coaches and two of the best teams around really early in the season. I am confident the best team will prevail.
Go Bucks!
Corey, you need to be consistent with your writings. Don’t state that Carson needs to show some CLASS, yet you ramble off the topic in your poorly written article and talk about how you hope that lowlife Kimo should injury Carson. No matter if you are a diehard Buckeyes, Southern Cal, LSU, Florida Gator, Michigan or Cleveland Clowns fan you should never hope another player gets injured. To hope someone gets injured, that’s classless Corey!
Corey, if you were a professional athlete in Detroit and your Buckeyes played Michigan you have every right to hate on the Wolverines of Michigan because you are OSU alum. It’s not Carson’s fault he landed himself in Southwest Ohio where a lot of Buckeye Alum live.
I’m University of Southern California Class of 2007 and will be making the trip cross country from my home in New York City to see the Pete Carroll led Trojans STOMP on the Buckeyes of Cow-Town. Something University of Florida and LSU did very very easily.
FIGHT ON COLUMBUS!!!!
From Carson today:
“I’m a Trojan all the way, and I was talking to a Trojan audience in California. I guess I got a little fired up, as all good fans will do. But I really do respect the Buckeyes, and I know their fans are passionate, too. I hope they all understand I’m just looking forward to a big game for my school against a very tough opponent, and that it’s all in the good fun of a rivalry. You don’t have a real rivalry unless both sides are great teams.”
so what He’s aloud to say what He wants I don’t like bucks and I’ve lived here all My life they suck
It really irks me that Carson Palmer has to talk smack about the Ohio State Buckeyes. I happen to be a Colts fan, a proud one at than, especially since we currently have four Buckeyes on our roster, namely WRs Anthony Gonzalez and Roy Hall, DT Quinn Pitcock and DB Antonio Smith. The Buckeyes have bulletin board material and will use it as motivation to decimate the USC Trojans. Come December, Quinn Pitcock will help lead the Colts D into punishing the Bengals for Carson Palmer’s remarks about Ohio State(Peyton Manning, who’s 5-0 all-time against the Bengals, will light up the scoreboard at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis). Palmer better watch out when big #97 runs him over. Mighty Quinn will show Carson, “You don’t ever disrespect THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY!” The Colts are proud of our four Buckeyes, and come December, Carson Palmer will pay dearly for his remarks about Ohio State. Buckeyes and Colts 4-ever!
Carson Palmer is a tool. He has had multiple .500 seasons and only 1 winning season since he’s been drafted (11-5 and popped a knee in a game that was LOST to the Steelers). He’s terrible and has no room to talk about any other team. I WAS a Bengals fan, but not anymore. He obviously doesn’t know how die-hard Buckeye fans are. I imagine he will be boo’d during many home games this season, whether it be on the field, or in the comfort of my Ohio State recliner.
BUCKSOhio79, I agree with you on that. It definitely wouldn’t surprise me if Colts fans in support of Anthony Gonzalez, Quinn Pitcock, Roy Hall and Antonio Smith, started chanting “CARSON S*CKS!” or “CARSON, GO HOME!”. Other NFL teams with Buckeyes on the active roster will boo Carson Palmer when the Bengals are the road team. Columbus unquestionably deserves the title of “Titletown USA”, thanks to Buckeyes teams as well as golf legend Jack Nicklaus and baseball great Paul O’Neill. For me, since I live outside of Dayton, the two best considerably local sports stories, this decade, would have to be the Ohio State Buckeyes winning the Fiesta Bowl and college football’s National Championship(January, 2003) and the Indianapolis Colts winning Super Bowl XLI(February, 2007), which both ironically involved Ohio State alum, DB Mike Doss, now with the Minnesota Vikings. The Pittsburgh Steelers, winning Super Bowl XL, will get an honorable mention, especially for those living in Columbus. OSU is to be respected, but obviously, Carson Palmer doesn’t. He’d better realize his Bengals finished with a losing record, last season(7-9), so you’re right, he has no room to talk about other teams, college or pro, let alone rant about them. If the Buckeyes beat the Trojans, Carson better prepare to start eating crow.
Carson Palmer is a USC alum! Of course he would wish for USC to win against Ohio State. He SHOULD trash talk Ohio State. I would hope that Anthony Gonzalez, Troy Smith, Teddy Ginn and any other former Buckeye would do the same.
He plays for Cincinnati, but was born and raised in California. He is just remembering where he came from which is not arrogant, but actually humble.
I hate Carson Palmer just much as the next Brown’s fan, but seriously, find other reasons aside from him supporting his own alma mater.
And for secretely hoping he gets injured again is sickening. Let Carson play against the Browns and let him lose, don’t wish for him to miss it on the sidelines.
Possibly, BuckeyeFan, but remember, Anthony Gonzalez plays for the Colts, and head coach Tony Dungy will not allow trash talking of other oponents on his team. As for Troy Smith(Ravens) and Ted Ginn Jr.(Dolphins), it’s up to their respective head coaches.
he apologized..apologized. said he got carried away and respects OSU tremendously.
Hey ColtsFan… Dungy may not allow trash talking about other opponents, but neither the Colts or the Bengals play the Buckeyes, USC or any other college program as far as I know…
Carson is mad because he knows OSU could beat the bengals, to bad they don’t play each other.
Jim Buckeye, you’re a moron.
Carson is exactly right, you guys are way too serious here. If the bucks lose one game, you set cars on fire, destroy police cars, set dumpsters on fire, beat up innocent fans. OSU is titletown for trash talking fans that take the fun out of a game. I’m so glad someone finally said it and gets it. OSU is titletown for worst in the big ten in academics too. Let’s not forget the jailbird lawbreaking players you have too. Go USC! Go Bengals.
I have lived in Columbus all my life and I agree that a lot of OSU fans can get carried away. (Think about it though, it’s the ONLY team we really have to cheer for, that would make any city be over-excited about their team- what are we going to do? -Root for the bluejackets or crew???)
As for Palmer- I’m all for speaking your mind, but sometimes you have to think before you talk (common sense)- He’s in a business of professional football and earns his millions through his FANS and it just so happens that 90% of Bengals fans ARE OSU fans. He is obviously a puppet b/c he was TOLD (Probably by the Bengels head office) to make himself look like a tool and to back-pedal on what he said.
With me living in Columbus, I have always rooted for both Browns and Bengals- this year, I am Browns fan. The Bengals are filled with nothing but thugs and cocky idiots- who seriously would like to root for that? (Except for the people who have those traits)
